New Overtime Laws Overturned by Federal Judge

A new law mandating overtime wages was overturned by U.S. District Judge Amos Mazzant on Tuesday on the grounds that the law is illegal and unenforceable. The law, appointed by the U.S. Labor Department, was to go into effect in December and would have essentially doubled the salary that a worker can earn while simultaneously earning overtime wages. According to Reuters, the new rule "was expected to touch nearly every sector of the U.S. economy and have the greatest impact on nonprofit groups, retail companies, hotels and restaurants, which have many management workers whose salaries are below the new threshold." As a result of this new ruling, salary maximums and overtime eligibility will remain the same.
